Defense Secretary Robert Gates told reporters at the Pentagon June 18, 2009, that he has "a big proglem" with the House Armed Services Committee's markup of the 2010 defense authorization bill that would add 12 F-22 Raptors. He also called the professional opinion of senior Air Force officers that more than 187 Raptors are needed to support the national military strategy "completely nonsense."
